We are looking to bring on board a Communication Specialist/Curriculum Development eLearning Coordinator to provide health communication support to several grant-funded programs within the Maine CDC’s Environmental and Occupational Health Program (EOHP). The EOHP team is a multi-disciplinary group consisting of epidemiologists, toxicologists, physicians, health communication specialists, and environmental health scientists. The Communication Specialist will plan and implement statewide and targeted health education efforts for a variety of environmental health topics and audiences, using social marketing or other health communication frameworks and best practices as well as a variety of channels, including mass media, web-based, social media, interpersonal, and community channels. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to, support for and promotion of the Maine Tracking Network, a product of Maine CDC’s Environmental Public Health Tracking Unit, and creation and promotion of climate and health-related messages in support of Maine CDC’s Climate and Health Unit. Work will be performed as part of a highly skilled and collaborative team under limited supervision.

The curriculum development eLearning coordinator position works with a team on MCD curriculum and eLearning developers. This position is accountable for designing educational curriculums, developing evidence-based online training, providing relevant technical assistance, and maintaining existing eLearning web platforms and educational content.

Full-time, 40 hours 8am – 5pm. This position is 20 hours with Maine CDC and 20 hours with MCD Public Health. The position will have the ability to work remotely up to 4 days per week, with one day per week working at the offices of the Maine CDC in Augusta. This is a contract through 2026 with anticipated continued funding. This position is eligible for MCD’s benefit package.

Knowledge, Qualifications and Skills:

The candidate should have a Master’s Degree in public health, communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or other relevant field and one (1) year of relevant professional experience; or equivalent combination of a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field and three (3) years of related experience.
• Experience with behavior change marketing (preferred)
• Curriculum development and eLearning skills a plus
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to develop plain language messages about complex information
• Knowledge of the methods and techniques of disseminating health education information effectively
• Skilled in applying best practices and standards for health communication, page layout, and information design
• Skilled in writing and developing digital content for various platforms
• Able to direct and manage webpage development and print production projects implemented by outside contractors
• Skilled in using Microsoft Office programs and in Adobe Creative Cloud software products (i.e. Dreamweaver) or other related web development, design, or content management software
• Able to give presentations about basic program information and to conduct trainings for a variety of audiences
• Able to work on multiple projects consecutively while maintaining accuracy, paying attention to detail, and meeting project deadlines
• Able to function effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment

The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are preferred:
• Professional experience in the fields of health communication or environmental health.
• Knowledge related to environmental public health topics including climate and health.
• Experience with writing grant applications
• Experience with web development and/or analytics using Drupal, Google Analytics, or similar programs.
• Experience with behavior change marketing.
• Skilled in curriculum development and eLearning
