Case Investigators (COVID Response)

Do you have a passion for public health in Maine? Medical Care Development, Inc. (MCD), a non-profit, public health services organization, is accepting applications for thirty (30) public health professionals to join our team and serve as a Case Investigator working with the State of Maine CDC (The Department) COVID Response Program. This position will provide case investigation services by conducting thorough and complete case, cluster, and outbreak investigations. This full-time 40-hour per week position will provide immediate response to and investigate reports of COVID-19. This full-time 40-hour per week position will be remote following a required in-person two-week training session. This is a one-year grant-funded project. This position is eligible for MCD’s benefit package.

Essential Job Functions:
• Provide immediate response to and investigate reports of COVID-19 using systematic and proven epidemiological methods and techniques, including but not limited to providing:
o Immediate response to all Disease Reports and Disease Consultations distributed, Sunday through Saturday (seven (7) days a week), 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. including some state holidays and administrative days.
o Timely response per Infectious Disease Program Standard Operating Procedures provided by the Department; and
o Services after normal local business hours, as requested by the Department.
• Provide Disease Consultation to the broader health care community (i.e. all health care professionals and health-related institutions and agencies) primarily, and other agencies and institutions as requested by the Department to ensure that:
o Disease Investigations are documented according to Disease Investigation Protocols and/or Outbreak Standard Operating Procedures provided by the Department; and
o Outbreak Investigations are documented according to Disease Investigation Protocols and/or Outbreak Standard Operating Procedures provided by the Department.
• Use and integrate Health Information Systems (HIS), as directed by the Department, that enhance public health practice and policy, including the use of Maine’s National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS) Base System (NBS).

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Required:
A Master’s degree in public health with relevant course work in Epidemiology, microbiology, and statistics or a Bachelor’s degree in a health or science related field and a minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience. This position also requires experience using computer-based statistical packages, including SAS and requires knowledge of infectious diseases.

• Ability to exercise good judgment within a context of competing priorities, agendas, and partner sensitivities.
• Highly motivated self-starter with ability to work independently, from office or in the community.
• Excellent interpersonal skills - communication, networking, group facilitation.
• Ability to handle multiple projects and responsibilities, and have a sense of urgency with deadlines.
• Strong communication skills: ability to listen well, write, and speak effectively.
