Community Transformations

MCD Public Health provided staff for two separate Community Transformation Grants (CTGs). This federally funded program goal was to create healthier communities by making healthy living easier and more accessible where people work, live, learn and play. One CTG program was a statewide project of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention that ran from 2011 - 2014. The Maine CTG program supported health related environmental changes across the state in schools and early childcare education sites, working across state agencies and with District Coordinating Councils to create healthier communities and reduce some of the drivers of chronic diseases. The second CTG program was a partnership with the Maine Development Foundation. This initiative partnered downtown economic development efforts with community and worksite wellness programming in 19 Maine communities from 2012 - 2014. This small community CTG initiative documented measurable and significant changes in employer policies and employee behaviors.

MCD is the type of organization that everyone looks to as a collaborator in efforts to improve public health. Their vast expertise and innovative thinking have allowed us to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS while helping those affected by this disease lead healthier, more productive lives.
