2016-2017 AmeriCorps Somerset County Position Overview
AmeriCorps Somerset County offers members a variety of opportunities to help improve the health and well-being of low income seniors and adults. Members will work with non-profit organizations conducting outreach in rural communities to provide health education, link people with health care and services, reduce social isolation and food insecurity and to recruit and train volunteers. Positions may involve travel to rural areas to identify residents and reliable transportation is required. Members may also be involved in developing or expanding programs related to Veterans & Military Families, Access to Health Care, Health Education, Chronic Disease Self-Management, and Obesity Prevention. This program is sponsored by the Senior Strong Coalition in partnership with MCD Public Health. Funding for AmeriCorps Somerset County is provided by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) through the Maine Commission for Community Service (MCCS). -Self-motivated with a high degree of flexibility.
-Clear, concise oral and written communication.
-Ability to manage time, set priorities, plan and implement projects effectively.
-Ability to use computers and tablets, basic word processing skills
-High school diploma or equivalent required.
-Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
-Speak clearly and effectively to groups (large and small).
-Quickly establish rapport and develop trusting one-on-one service relationships.
-Provide training and technical assistance on service related issues.
-Navigate the internet and use various types of technology and software, such as Microsoft Office, GoToMeeting, and on-line reporting system.
-Travel throughout the local area to provide services.
Benefits and Terms:
All full-time AmeriCorps members receive a living allowance ($12,530/YR), potential access to health benefits, and upon successful completion of service term a $5,775 educational award. Additional benefits available to eligible members: child care reimbursement and student loans may qualify for deferment.
